The meeting held at the Ministry of Health gathered Minister Kanibek Dosmambetov and U.S. Ambassador Leslie Viguerie.
According to the Ministry of Health, the discussion focused on bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare, including the exchange of experience in disease prevention, public health, training of personnel, and the implementation of modern medical technologies.
The Minister emphasized the prospects for further development of interaction between the USA and the Kyrgyz Republic, taking into account common interests and objectives to strengthen the healthcare system.
During the conversation, the plan for the construction of a medical town in Bishkek was mentioned, aimed at developing healthcare infrastructure and procuring modern medical and laboratory equipment from leading American manufacturers. There was also expressed interest in internships and advanced training for Kyrgyz specialists in the USA.
The American side noted that cooperation in the field of healthcare began in the mid-1990s and includes programs on HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary safety. In this regard, the USA proposed to sign a memorandum outlining priority areas for the coming years.
As part of the proposed initiatives, the USA intends to focus on three key areas: access to medical services and medications for people with HIV, support for the national tuberculosis control program, and strengthening sanitary and epidemiological preparedness.
According to Dosmambetov, the draft memorandum is currently undergoing inter-agency coordination, during which financial, legal, tax, and institutional aspects are being analyzed, after which consolidated comments will be sent to the American side through official channels.
The parties confirmed their interest in continuing joint work on issues of healthcare, epidemiological safety, infrastructure modernization, commercial cooperation, and training of medical personnel.
