The Minister of Health and the U.S. Ambassador discussed the memorandum of cooperation and plans for the medical city in Bishkek.
The main focus was on issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of health, which includes the exchange of experience in disease prevention, public health, training of medical personnel, and the implementation of modern technologies in medicine. The minister emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the U.S. and Kyrgyzstan in the context of improving the healthcare system.
During the meeting, the project for the construction of a medical campus in Bishkek was also discussed, which involves equipping it with modern medical and laboratory equipment from leading American companies. There was an expression of interest in internships and advanced training for Kyrgyz specialists in the United States.
Representatives of the American side noted that their cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in the field of health began in the mid-1990s and includes programs related to HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary-epidemiological safety. In this regard, they proposed to develop a memorandum that would outline priority areas for interaction in the coming years.
The memorandum is planned to focus on three key aspects: ensuring access to medical services and medications for people living with HIV; supporting the national tuberculosis control program; and strengthening sanitary-epidemiological safety.
The minister reported that the draft memorandum is currently undergoing inter-agency approval, during which financial, legal, tax, and customs aspects are being analyzed. Upon completion of the process, all comments will be sent to the American side through official channels.
Both parties confirmed their interest in further cooperation concerning health issues, epidemiological safety, infrastructure modernization, commercial relations, and training of medical personnel.
