At a briefing, the Deputy Akim of Almaty, Beibut Shakhanov, shared information about the progress in developing measures to restrict the entry of "non-ecological transport" into the city, as reported by Tengri Auto.

Shakhanov noted that the regulations concerning this issue are currently in the approval stage at the Ministry of Justice. After this stage is completed, they will be presented to the Maslikhat for further discussion.

"It is planned that measures to restrict the entry of vehicles with low environmental standards will be implemented gradually, starting with cars that meet the 'Euro-zero' standard, as they cause the most harm to the environment," he added.

In August 2025, the Maslikhat of Almaty prepared a draft concerning the introduction of special environmental requirements to protect the atmosphere in the city. According to this document, new environmental standards will be established to limit the entry of vehicles with low environmental classes.

According to the Akimat, the new rules will apply to vehicles that do not meet the 'Euro-5' standard and above. They may be subject to a paid entry into the city center, and in conditions of severe smog, a complete entry ban may be imposed.

Later, the Akimat emphasized that they understand the importance of the social sensitivity of this project, so its implementation will be carried out in stages. An important stage will be the launch of a long-term pilot test with zero entry fees.
