The Secretary noted that Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, who carried out the shooting at Brown University, arrived in the United States in 2017 through the Diversity Visa (DV1) program and subsequently became a permanent resident of the country.
He should not have been allowed entry into the U.S.Additionally, Noem reminded that in 2017, Donald Trump advocated for the termination of the visa lottery program following the terrorist attack in New York, when a terrorist who arrived through the DV1 program drove a truck into people, taking the lives of eight individuals.
In her statement, the Secretary also reported that at the direction of President Trump, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has been ordered to immediately suspend the DV1 program to ensure the safety of citizens.
