Lithuania has withdrawn from the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines

Vilnius notified the UN Secretary-General on December 27, after which the established deadline for withdrawal from the convention expired. This convention prohibits not only the use but also the production and stockpiling of anti-personnel mines.

It was previously reported that Lithuania and Finland intend to organize their own production of anti-personnel mines in the coming years. This production is planned for both domestic needs and supplies to Ukraine. The Lithuanian authorities have also planned to allocate about 800 million euros for the production of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines over the next decade.
