Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin expressed his readiness for dialogue in an interview published on the morning of December 21. "Macron expressed a desire to talk to Putin, and it is important to remember that the President of Russia has already indicated his willingness to communicate during the direct line," he added.
Shortly after this, Macron's administration welcomed Moscow's initiative and announced that a decision would be made in the coming days regarding the organization of further steps.
The Élysée Palace also emphasized that any negotiations with Russia would take place under conditions of "full transparency" for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European partners.
We remind you that on December 19, Macron stated the importance of resuming dialogue with Putin and expressed hope that Europeans would be able to find ways to do this in the coming weeks.
The first phone call between Macron and Putin in the last three years took place in July, where military actions in Ukraine and the conflict between Iran and Israel were discussed. Since then, no new contacts have been reported.
