The tragedy occurred in Yobe State in northeastern Nigeria, where 25 people died as a result of a passenger vessel capsizing. This was reported by Kazinform, citing Anadolu Ajansı.
According to Mohammed Goje, the Secretary-General of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the vessel overturned on a river in the Nguru area while transporting passengers from Yobe State to Jigawa State.
He added that during the rescue operations, 13 passengers were saved, but 14 people remain missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the area.
It is worth noting that in Nigeria, where such incidents occur quite frequently, a ban on the operation of unregistered vessels has been in effect since September 10, 2025, to prevent accidents on the water.
