Experts report that the disaster was caused by heavy rains that have not ceased in the region since the end of November. Debris flows have caused significant damage to residential homes, roads, and infrastructure, complicating rescue efforts in the most affected areas.
Preliminary estimates indicate that more than 5,400 people have been affected. The natural disaster has impacted about 1.2 million residents, many of whom have been forced to seek shelter in temporary accommodations. Among the affected, there is growing discontent due to the slow response in providing assistance.
