Currently, military planners are developing proposals for a possible NATO mission in Greenland, which has reportedly attracted Trump's attention as a potential territory for the U.S.
According to sources, British officials have already discussed this topic with representatives from Germany and France, beginning preliminary negotiations. Although the plans are in the early stages, the deployment of ground troops, naval forces, and air power to protect the region from potential threats posed by Russia and China is being considered.
A representative of the British government noted: "We fully support President Trump's view: it is necessary to deter Russia's growing aggression in the Arctic and strengthen Euro-Atlantic security."
As reported by The Telegraph, European countries hope that increasing their military presence in the Arctic will prompt Donald Trump to reconsider his plans for the annexation of Greenland. This issue has also been a topic of discussion among NATO allies at a recent meeting in Brussels.
Negotiators have approached the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe with a request to assess additional measures that could ensure security in the Arctic region. Possible operations could range from a full troop deployment to temporary exercises, intelligence sharing, and reallocating defense budgets.
Any such actions are expected to be carried out under NATO auspices and separately from the alliance's existing operations in the Baltic states and Poland.
Additionally, sources report that the European Union is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions on American companies if Trump rejects NATO's proposals. This could affect tech giants such as Meta, Google, Microsoft, and X, as well as American financial institutions.
