
As a result of abnormally high temperatures in the Australian state of Victoria, wildfires have destroyed more than 300 thousand hectares of forest. According to the Guardian, the situation may remain critical for several more weeks.
According to the latest data, one person has died as a result of the fires, and hundreds of residents have been left homeless. In response to the disaster, the federal government of Australia, together with the government of Victoria, has allocated 19.5 million Australian dollars (approximately 13 million US dollars) to assist those affected.
The publication reports that at least 119 buildings have been destroyed due to the raging fires, and the total area of burned forests exceeds 300 thousand hectares. The state continues to fight the fire, which is expected to last for several more weeks.
According to the Victoria state control center, 67 active fires were recorded on Saturday, of which 10 continued to spread uncontrollably.
