Wildfires Rage in Chile
Powerful wildfires have erupted in central Chile, claiming the lives of at least 16 people, according to information published in the newspaper Tercera and provided by Minister of Civil Security Luis Cordero.
According to the publication, the most affected regions are Ñuble and Biobío, where fire has engulfed 24 different hotspots.
“As of January 18, the death toll from the wildfires in the Biobío region has risen to 16,” the newspaper reports.
On the social network X, the National Disaster Prevention Service (SENAPRED) noted that President Gabriel Boric plans to visit the affected areas. Earlier, the president himself announced the introduction of a "disaster regime" in the Ñuble and Biobío regions due to the severe situation caused by the fires.
