- After attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the heating situation in Kyiv remains critical. As of January 22, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that about 3,000 apartment buildings continue to be without heating, and emergency power outages are in effect in the city.
- According to Tatiana Moskalkova, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, at least 524 people have died as a result of military actions in the Kursk region. "Since August 6, 2024, 524 bodies have been discovered in mass burial sites," she reported.
- In Davos, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump for a meeting that lasted less than an hour and was characterized by both leaders as positive.
- U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. They were joined by Josh Grünbaum, the new advisor to Trump's "Peace Council." The talks lasted about 3.5 hours, and Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov described them as "useful in every sense." He added that "Russia will continue to consistently pursue its military goals until a political-diplomatic settlement is achieved."
- In the UAE, trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. are expected to take place from Friday to Saturday. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by high-ranking officials, including the head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov. Russia will be represented by leaders from the Ministry of Defense, with the delegation headed by GRU Chief Igor Kostyukov.
- In his speech at the forum in Davos, President Zelensky noted that Europe continues to exhibit indecision and is not increasing its military capabilities to the necessary extent, continuing to rely on the U.S.
- The French naval forces, supported by the UK, detained the tanker Grinch in the Mediterranean Sea, which was en route from Murmansk and suspected of using a false flag.
- As a result of an attack on Kryvyi Rih, 11 people were injured, including three children.
- A trial has begun in Vienna against Egisto Otta, a former employee of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (BVT) of Austria, accused of espionage in favor of Russia. He is charged with treason, endangering Austria's security, and abuse of office.
