According to NBC sources, the U.S. administration is in dialogue with Canadian authorities about the possibility of expanding military cooperation in the Arctic region. However, the issue of stationing American troops at Canada's northern border is not on the agenda.
In 2025, commenting on the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Trump referred to him as "the governor of the great state of Canada," which came amid disagreements over the potential imposition of tariffs on Canadian goods. Later, Trump expressed the view that Canada could avoid tariffs and receive military protection if it became part of the United States.
In January of last year, Trump signed an order to create a missile defense system called the "Golden Dome," similar to the one used by Israel to intercept missiles.
