
The President of Romania, Nicolae Ciucă, also emphasized that unification is only possible if the majority of Moldovan citizens support it. When asked about the Romanian side's readiness to consider this option, he replied: “We are not ready for this at the moment, but when the majority in the Republic of Moldova desires it, then we can talk about such a scenario.”
According to the results of a survey conducted in August, 61.5% of Moldovans were against unification with Romania, while 31% supported the initiative. Additionally, 60% of respondents expressed opposition to Moldova's accession to NATO, of which Romania is a member.
Earlier, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, expressed the opinion that she would support the idea of a referendum on including the country in Romania, but acknowledged that the majority of citizens do not wish to lose their sovereignty.
