According to forecasts, by July 2026, the NIM may decrease to 321 thousand people. If the current trend continues, this will lead to the number of people leaving the US exceeding the number of incoming migrants for the first time in 50 years.
The report also notes a slowdown in population growth: from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025, the increase will be only 1.8 million people, whereas in the previous period it increased by 3.2 million. This is the lowest population growth rate since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as noted in the report.
Since taking office in January 2025, President Donald Trump has advocated for stricter immigration measures. Recently, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reported that approximately 3 million illegal migrants left the US during the year of the administration's work. Of these, 2.2 million left voluntarily, while more than 675 thousand were deported, as she indicated in her message on the X platform.
