On February 6, an explosion occurred near a Shia mosque in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, resulting in at least 31 deaths, reports DW.
According to police, around 170 people were injured. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack happened during prayer. According to law enforcement, a suicide bomber was stopped at the entrance to the temple before he could activate the explosive device. However, witnesses claim that the assailant opened fire on the guards and then detonated himself inside the building.

Ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The condition of many of the injured is assessed as serious, and a state of emergency was declared in one of the hospitals in Islamabad, as reported by the local newspaper Dawn.
