The Government of India has announced the first set of rules regarding the management of risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI). These recommendations aim to create a code that will support a high level of innovation in this field, reports The Times of India.

According to the new rules, measures are provided to combat bias, abuse, and opaque use of AI, with an emphasis on the accelerated implementation of neural networks. The focus is on the safety, resilience, and ecology of technologies, as well as ensuring equality and accountability in their application for the benefit of humanity, while adhering to existing legislation and regulations in the fields of information technology and data protection. To ensure compliance with these norms, national institutions will be established in the country to manage and secure AI, along with expert councils to develop relevant policies.

The updated guidelines are addressed to both policymakers and the business community and will be used in sectors such as education, agriculture, finance, and public administration. The designated rules represent an alternative to the AI regulation bill, which the Government of India currently does not plan to introduce, notes The Times of India.

The publication emphasizes that India’s approach to the application of AI is based on the belief that no country or company should have a monopoly on its development. AI should be used to address pressing contemporary issues.

Delhi Summit on AI Utilization

The release of the rules coincided with the opening on February 16 in New Delhi of the five-day AI Impact Summit 2026, dedicated to issues of public governance, sovereign infrastructure, and workforce transformation in the context of AI. The Indian government plans to present its intentions for the widespread implementation of AI across various sectors of the economy at this event.

During the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a national exhibition in the capital, where achievements in the use of AI will be showcased across 300 platforms, along with innovations in its development and implementation. The exhibition will also demonstrate India’s international cooperation in the field of AI with countries such as Russia, Australia, France, Japan, Tajikistan, and other states from Europe, Asia, and Africa.
