The United States has not given consent for the production of surface-to-air missiles for Patriot systems in Europe, despite its previous promises. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, made this statement, as reported by DW.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine had proposed to organize missile production both on its territory and in cooperation with NATO, particularly with Romania and Poland.
“We have already discussed with the USA the necessity of creating sufficient capacities for missile production in Europe, especially for Patriot. Promises were made regarding licenses, but no decision has been made,” Zelensky emphasized in his video address on February 17.
The President of Ukraine advocated for the activation of missile production for air defense in Europe, confident that European countries are capable of providing the necessary volumes, but the current production rates remain insufficient.
He also added that such measures could significantly strengthen the defense capabilities of the entire European continent.
Kiev continues to insist on the urgent need for arms supplies, especially missiles for Patriot systems, amid ongoing attacks from Russia. At the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky once again urged Western allies to increase assistance for the protection of Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure during the winter period.
