A joint working group will be created to strengthen Mongolian-British cooperation in the mining industry

According to MiddleAsianNews, in London, the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Mongolia, Damdinnyam Gongor, met with Chris MacDonald, the Minister of Industry of the United Kingdom.

During this meeting, a decision was made to establish a joint working group between the ministries of the two countries. This will be part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024, which concerns cooperation in the field of mining between Mongolia and the United Kingdom.


The parties also agreed to explore new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as conducting geological surveys in Mongolia, financing geological exploration, data exchange, and training personnel.

The Minister also held talks with members of Parliament about cooperation in the field of mineral resources in the United Kingdom


Damdinnyam Gongor met with the chair of the UK-Mongolia parliamentary group, James Wild, the deputy chair, Baroness Northover, and other members of Parliament.


At the meeting, ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of mineral resources were discussed, as well as opportunities for supporting investments and technology transfer that align with sustainable development principles.

The participants emphasized the prospects for joint work in the exploration, extraction, and processing of strategically important minerals, highlighting the need to comply with environmental standards and social responsibility.

Minister Damdinnyam presented the strategy of the Mongolian government in the field of industry and mining. During the discussion, ways to strengthen inter-parliamentary interaction and gain parliamentary support for major mining initiatives were also considered.
