Currently, there are 2,589 women in correctional institutions in Uzbekistan, of which 1,239 have secondary education but lack a relevant profession. Among them, 443 women have expressed a desire to continue their education at universities. A program called "Yangi hayot" ("New Life") will be implemented for their social rehabilitation.
The President noted that women who have committed crimes under various circumstances, often out of ignorance, are also citizens of the country. "We must seriously consider their social rehabilitation and how they can become full members of society," he added.
According to plans, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the Agency for Vocational Education and the Ministry of Labor, will organize courses for convicted women lasting from 3 to 6 months, after which certificates will be issued.
In addition, they will be given the opportunity to take entrance exams and enroll in universities, as well as study remotely. For those who choose contract-based education, an interest-free loan will be provided, which can be repaid after serving their sentence and finding employment, the president reported.
