Earlier, another council member, Ahmad Khatami, indicated that potential candidates have already been identified, and the selection of a new Supreme Leader could be made at the earliest opportunity. However, the current military situation in the country may affect the decision-making timeline.

On the eve, as a result of a joint operation by the US and Israel, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed. This occurred on February 28. The Expert Council has already begun determining candidates to replace him. The media and US President Donald Trump consider the son of Ayatollah Khamenei, Mojtaba, as a likely successor.
