Ali Khamenei died during a military operation organized by the USA and Israel while in his office. According to Fars, his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and one of his daughters-in-law also died as a result of this operation. Later, his wife also succumbed to her injuries. According to Israeli sources, about 30 bombs were dropped on Khamenei's residence, and the building was almost completely destroyed, as confirmed by satellite images.
The Iranian government announced a 40-day mourning period and seven days of public holidays in connection with the death of the supreme leader.
The military operation against Iran was initiated by Israel and the USA on the morning of February 28. The next day, the IDF press service reported the elimination of 40 Iranian commanders. On the same day as Khamenei, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Pakpour, the secretary of the Iranian Defense Council, Ali Shamkhani, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Abdulrahim Mousavi, and the Minister of Defense, Aziz Nasirzadeh, also died.
In response to these actions, Iran launched missile and drone strikes on American military bases in the region, as well as on Israeli territory.
