The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that during the war with the Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, about 70,000 people died. The statement from the Israeli army was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
The IDF also disputed the UN data on the number of civilian casualties. According to the Israeli army, about 25,000 of the deceased were members of Hamas. At the beginning of 2024, it was recorded that about 13% of the rockets fired by Hamas fell in Gaza due to misfires, leading to additional casualties among Palestinians, the IDF noted.
According to information from the Israeli army, Hamas executed many Palestinians whom it considered its opponents, as well as those who tried to leave the combat zone. Currently, the IDF is working to clarify the ratio of civilian casualties to militants, as well as the number of victims caused by Hamas's actions.
International organizations and some media report that approximately 450 Palestinians have died from starvation in Gaza. However, the IDF claims that this data contains inaccurate information or includes people who suffered from serious illnesses before the conflict began.
During the war, 112,000 trucks with humanitarian aid were delivered to Gaza, including 1.7 million tons of food and 1.8 million tents and tarpaulins, the Israeli army reports. Additionally, during this time, 600,000 children were vaccinated against polio. There are 16 field hospitals operating in Gaza, and 9,600 tons of medical supplies have been delivered to the region.
Since October 10, 2023, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has come into effect. As a result, Hamas released 20 hostages who survived the attacks on October 7, while Israel released about two thousand Palestinians, including those convicted of terrorist activities.
