In his statement, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar noted that the decision to temporarily suspend the "Ghazab lil-Haq" operation was made at the initiative of the authorities and in response to requests from Muslim countries. "Considering the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday, the authorities decided to halt actions against terrorists and their infrastructure in Afghanistan," he added.
According to him, the ceasefire will be in effect from March 19 to March 24, starting and ending at midnight.
Tarar also emphasized that if Afghanistan attempts to attack Pakistan during the specified days, fire will be resumed immediately.
Following this, the authorities of Afghanistan announced their intention to also suspend military actions. Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban representative, confirmed that this decision was made in response to appeals from other Muslim countries.
The conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated on February 22, when Islamabad struck positions of the "Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan." In response, the Taliban began an offensive in the border areas of Pakistan.
Eid al-Fitr, also known as Uraza-Bayram in some countries, symbolizes the end of fasting during Ramadan.
