These additional forces will likely include infantry units and armored vehicles, which will increase the number of American troops in the region to about 15,000, considering the already present 5,000 Marines and paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division. This will give President Donald Trump greater flexibility in military operations, despite ongoing negotiations with Iran.

The location of the new troops remains uncertain for now. According to WSJ's assumptions, they may be directed to areas close to the Iranian border and to Khark Island, through which Iran conducts 90% of its oil exports.

According to an Axios source, a final decision may be made next week. Reports indicate that the Pentagon is considering various military scenarios, including the possibility of a "final strike" against Iran using ground troops and large-scale bombings.

At this time, the president has not made a decision to implement these actions. However, sources claim he is prepared to escalate if the results of negotiations with Tehran are not satisfactory in the near future, the publication notes.
