In Bishkek, at the Pervomaisky District Court, a hearing took place the day before regarding the case of mass riots, where the investigation requested a change in the measure of restraint for a group of defendants.
The court granted the petition and decided to remand Temirlan Sultanbekov, Ermek Ermatov, and Urmat Askarbekov (previously known as Urmat Baryktabasov) in custody. These individuals will remain in pre-trial detention until January 17.
Additionally, Kadyrbek Atambaev, Shailoobek Atazov, and Kubanychbek Kadyrov were also placed in custody until January 17.
The son of the former president stated that the charges against him had been reclassified to a more serious one - he is now accused of attempting to violently overthrow the government.
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the activities of a group preparing mass riots after the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh had been suppressed. The investigation believes that this group included political figures, former deputies, ex-government officials, and security service employees who attempted to attract supporters, including organized crime groups and sports associations, for provocations and confrontations.
“The detainees intended to organize a series of rallies across the country after the election results were announced, starting from the southern regions, then in Bishkek and other areas, creating the illusion of mass discontent. Their plans also included unconstitutional calls and a possible seizure of administrative buildings, television stations, security service facilities, weapons, and penitentiary institutions,” the statement said.
