Eight suspects have been charged in connection with their involvement in a far-right terrorist cell, according to information from the federal prosecutor in Germany. The main goal of the group, as investigators found, was to undermine democracy through acts of violence against migrants and political opponents.
Among the accused are seven alleged members and one supporter of the neo-Nazi organization "Last Wave of Defense," including minors. The charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and causing serious bodily harm.
Most of those detained were arrested in May, and with the exception of one who was released in July, all others remain in custody.
According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, this group was formed in May 2024. The participants have already carried out arson and explosions at the homes of asylum seekers and at institutions associated with leftist political movements.
The group is attributed with three attacks and several planned assaults, including the arson of a cultural center in Altdöbern (Brandenburg), a failed attempt to attack a shelter for asylum seekers in Schmölln (Thuringia), and plans to attack housing for migrants in Senftenberg (also Brandenburg).
Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of these incidents. Some members of the group are also accused of committing robberies and assaults that resulted in serious bodily harm, the prosecutor's office notes.
Documents published in July indicate that members of this neo-Nazi cell intended to "ignite a racial war," which would lead to an escalation of violence and counter-violence aimed at protecting the "white race" and the ultimate destruction of liberal democracy, reports the German news agency dpa.
They also actively posted racist and anti-Semitic materials on social media, glorifying Nazi Germany and its ideology.
