
According to information provided by the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, when the coast guard attempted to approach the vessel, shots were fired from the boat. As a result of the exchange of fire, four people aboard the American boat were killed.
During the incident, six more people from the Cuban vessel were injured, which had five members of the coast guard on board. The Cuban Ministry of the Interior clarified that the shooting began when their ship approached the vessel registered in Florida for passenger identification, which led to the captain of the Cuban ship being injured.
“Currently, the competent authorities are continuing the investigation to establish all the circumstances of the incident,” the official statement said.
