Businessman Umar Dzhabrailov committed suicide in Moscow

The body of the former Federation Council member from Chechnya was found in a hotel room along with a pistol.

On March 2, a suicide was recorded in Moscow involving businessman and former senator from Chechnya Umar Dzhabrailov, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS, citing information from law enforcement and Dzhabrailov's former lawyer, as mentioned by DW.

According to TASS, "there is no criminal element in the businessman’s death; an investigation is currently underway."

67-year-old Dzhabrailov was found dead in a hotel on Tverskaya Street; a pistol was found next to him, as reported by the Telegram channel Mash. Additional details about the incident are also provided by Baza and RBC.

It is worth noting that in 2020, Umar Dzhabrailov had already attempted suicide, as Mash reminds us.

Umar Dzhabrailov was born in Grozny and participated in the presidential elections in 2000, but came in last place. From 2004 to 2009, he represented Chechnya in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, serving as deputy chairman of the committee on international affairs.

From 2009 to 2013, he worked as an advisor to the assistant to the President of Russia, Sergey Prikhodko. In 2017, Dzhabrailov was detained for hooliganism after an incident involving an attempted shooting at the Four Seasons hotel in Moscow. As a result, he was fined 500,000 rubles and expelled from the "United Russia" party due to actions deemed discrediting to the party and contrary to its interests.
