WHO: Global warming causes one death every minute

Burning coal is one of the key causes of global warming

According to a report prepared by the World Health Organization in collaboration with partners, one person dies every minute on the planet due to global warming. This was reported by The Guardian.

The study emphasizes that since the 1990s, the number of heat-related deaths has increased by 23%, accounting for population growth. The average number of deaths for this reason from 2012 to 2021 was 546,000 per year.

“That’s about one heat-related death every minute throughout the year,” noted Professor Ollie Jay from the University of Sydney, who was part of the analytical group, adding that this trend continues to intensify.

Researchers also found that reducing coal use has helped save about 400 lives daily over the past decade. However, the ongoing burning of fossil fuels not only contributes to climate warming but also worsens air quality.
