According to information from the Tulane University National Biomedical Center, the rhesus macaque monkeys were infected with several viruses, including hepatitis C and Covid-19, posing a potential threat to the public.
These primates, weighing about 12 kg, exhibit aggressive behavior, so they can only be approached with personal protective equipment.
According to the latest information from local police, all monkeys except one have been destroyed. The search for the remaining macaque is currently ongoing.
