High-ranking guests attended the event, including the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev, as well as the Presidential Representative in the Osh Region Elchibek Jantayev. Local residents and district leadership also participated in the event.
The station, located on an area of 4.71 hectares, is fully completed. It includes an administrative building, facilities for preliminary and biological treatment, as well as the necessary equipment installed.
Project work began in 2024, with a total cost of 2,502,634 euros, of which:
- 1,752,261 euros — grant funds,
- 750,373 euros — loan funds.
“Funding was provided with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The station is capable of treating 2,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day and serving about 10,000 to 13,000 people, which will help solve long-standing sewage and wastewater treatment issues in Uzgen,” the official statement noted.
Uzgen Mayor Eldos Taev emphasized that this project is one of the key initiatives for the city's development.
“Sewage and the new wastewater treatment station are large-scale and significant projects for us. Previously, there was no complete sewage system in Uzgen. The construction was carried out in collaboration with a Czech company. The station will be able to serve 10,000 to 15,000 subscribers and process up to 2,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day. The area of the site allows for future expansion of the facility due to population growth,” he clarified.
Taev added that with the commissioning of the station, 7 schools, 7 kindergartens, apartment buildings, and other social facilities will be connected to the system. This new infrastructure project is an important step in improving the environmental situation in the city and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
