The International Forum dedicated to the theme "Internet for Sustainable Development and Bridging the Digital Divide" has started in Bishkek.

This event emphasizes the role of the internet as an important factor for sustainable development in modern society.
The Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Innovative Technologies of Kyrgyzstan, Azizbek Pirmamatov, emphasized that the internet has become not only a means of communication but also a major driver of progress in various sectors of the economy, as well as access to digital services and equality:

“Sustainable development is impossible without a unified digital society, where every citizen, regardless of location and social status, can benefit from the blessings of the digital age. Kyrgyzstan is a vivid example of a country where digital development is actively promoted, but the gap with other states remains noticeable. Nevertheless, progress does not stop, and we see it even in the most remote corners of our country.”

According to Pirmamatov, the republic is currently covered by 3G in 98 percent of the territory, which includes 2,210 populated areas. The number of internet users is steadily growing and stands at 7.5 million, and 3,000 kilometers of fiber optic lines have been laid.

He also noted that a key task is to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural populations and to combat digital illiteracy. An important step towards achieving digital development goals was the adoption of the Digital Code — a strategic document that establishes clear legal frameworks in the digital sphere.

However, problems remain. Pirmamatov believes that simply having internet access is not enough; it is necessary to educate people on how to use it correctly. An important aspect is instilling digital hygiene in the population, and that is why this forum will serve as an educational platform.

Anya Geng, an internet management specialist from the forum's secretariat, noted that discussing these issues will help simplify interaction between the state and citizens.
Myrlan Chynybaev, rector of the I. Razakov Kyrgyz State Technical University, reported that the university has two institutes of high technologies and communications. He added that a complete modernization of laboratories and academic programs is planned in the next two years with the support of the World Bank.

“Our goal is to train students in mobile development, programming, and other specialties in the field of digital technologies. We hope that soon the country will fully transition to 5G, and next year a corresponding laboratory will open at the university,” he emphasized.

Forum participants noted that holding the event within the walls of the university is very important, as youth are the main drivers of new technology adoption, and students are the first to master modern achievements in this field.
