A new batch of food aid from Russia has arrived in Kyrgyzstan, according to information from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

According to WFP data, over 1,147 tons of food have been delivered to warehouses in Bishkek and Osh.

This support will be directed to vulnerable families across the country through projects aimed at restoring public infrastructure, mitigating the effects of climate change, and organizing hot meals in schools.

Approximately 4,600 families participating in WFP programs will receive enriched wheat flour and vegetable oil, which will help improve food security. These projects also include work on restoring irrigation systems and water supply systems, planting trees, and strengthening riverbanks to reduce risks, as well as training aimed at developing skills and advanced agricultural practices.

Targeted families will receive 300 kilograms of enriched wheat flour and 30 liters of vegetable oil in exchange for participation in community projects aimed at restoring local infrastructure and increasing resilience to disasters and climate change.

Participants in capacity development training will be provided with 150 kilograms of enriched wheat flour and 15 liters of vegetable oil. These initiatives will not only improve infrastructure in remote areas but also help prepare for natural disasters, while creating additional employment and self-employment opportunities.

The Russian Federation holds the position of the largest donor country for the WFP in Kyrgyzstan. For the past 15 years, the government of Russia and the WFP have jointly supported the citizens of Kyrgyzstan at various levels, including emergency assistance and recovery, as well as the development of social protection systems such as the National School Feeding Program.
