The total length of these 15 inter-farm canals exceeds 155 kilometers, of which 107 kilometers run through the city. They supply irrigation water to the agricultural lands of the Kara-Suu and Aravan districts, as well as to the city of Osh itself.
Currently, in connection with the demolition of illegal structures initiated by the city administration, the Kara-Suu District Water Management Office has begun cleaning the canals and repairing water management facilities, as well as removing construction waste that ended up in the canals during the demolition process.
To implement these activities, the Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry will allocate additional funds from the republican budget.
At present, cleaning and repair work is being carried out on the Aravan-Ak-Buura, Kayirma, Zhany, Zhoobas, Zhekelik, Uvam, Muyan, and Southern canals. Excavators, front loaders, trucks, and specialized equipment from both water management organizations and private individuals are involved in the process.
It is planned that all work will be completed between December 2025 and April 2026, which will take five months.
It should be noted that at the initiative of the mayor of the Osh region, Jenishbek Toktorbaev, the demolition of illegal constructions also includes the clearing of coastal strips and protected zones of rivers and canals. These measures aim to improve the technical condition of the canals, which have been in poor condition for a long time, and ensure their full operation.
