In Kyrgyzstan, new technologies are being developed to improve the survival rate of seedlings, as reported by Mirlan Aitkaziev, project coordinator at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, on the air of "Birinchi Radio." He noted that the existing methods of growing seedlings in the country are largely outdated.

According to Aitkaziev, the traditional approach to planting involves waiting for the natural growth of plants, which requires adhering to a specific timeline for planting in open ground. In this case, the survival rate reaches about 70%. However, within the framework of the new project, it is proposed to implement a closed root system, which significantly increases the chances of seedling survival — up to 95%. This innovative solution allows for planting plants at any time of the year and in any location.

The specialist also emphasized that the existing nurseries in forestry and natural parks are unable to meet the demand for seedlings. Kyrgyzstan is largely dependent on imports, which negatively affects the survival rate — it stands at only 65-70%. Furthermore, often decorative seedlings brought from other regions do not survive due to differences in climatic conditions where they were grown and those that exist in Kyrgyzstan. Each of the seven regions of the republic has its unique natural and climatic characteristics.

Growing seedlings adapted to local conditions is one of the ways to adapt to climate change. "It takes many years to obtain quality seedlings, and the results of the new nurseries will only be visible in a decade," concluded Aitkaziev.
