Recall that the tragic incident occurred on December 25, 2024, when an Embraer-190 aircraft, operating a flight from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau, located in western Kazakhstan.
There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. According to sources from the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations, 29 people survived, including three citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry informed that the Azerbaijani airline paid an insurance compensation of 1.003 billion rubles for the loss of the aircraft.
As noted by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the Azerbaijani leader in October, one of the reasons for the crash was Ukrainian drones. Putin stated that on that day, Russian air defense forces tracked three Ukrainian drones that crossed the border. Two missiles fired by the air defense system did not hit the aircraft directly but exploded nearby, causing damage to the fuselage from debris, which the crew perceived as a bird strike. The crew was advised to land in Makhachkala, but they decided to return to their home airport. Putin also added that Russia would take all necessary measures to provide compensation in connection with this tragedy.
