Vice Mayor of Bishkek Azamat Kadyrov announced plans to transform Kyiv Street as part of the public discussion of the city’s master plan. According to him, from 2026 to 2027, this street will become pedestrian, but public transport will still be allowed to operate on it.
The project, which is set to begin in the specified years, already has allocated funding. An important step in the first phase will be the launch of electric buses on Kyiv Street.
According to the new master plan, there are also plans to organize tram routes on this street in the future. The city hall noted that in previous master plans, both for Frunze and Bishkek in 2006, this street was designated as a transport-pedestrian zone.
The transformation of Kyiv Street is aimed at developing public transport, reducing the burden from cars, and improving the urban environment in the city center, the authorities emphasize.
