In Karakol lives 12-year-old David Gribkov-Tezikbaev, for whom music and sports have become the most important aspects of life.

David studies at school No. 2 named after Baisara uulu Kydyr ake and simultaneously attends a children's art school, where he is learning to play the guitar. His love for music began in early childhood: his father, a self-taught musician, occasionally played melodies at home, and his mother decided to enroll him in a music school. At the age of nine, he received his first guitar, which became his constant companion.

“I prefer classical guitar; I haven't tried electric guitar yet, but I would really like to,” David shares.

Music requires diligence, and the young musician dedicates about an hour a day to practicing guitar, while the rest of his time is spent on lessons, judo training, and household chores. His teacher, Sergey Balakirev, helps him diversify his repertoire, including both classical and contemporary Kyrgyz works.
David's first significant performance took place at the "Obon" competition in Bishkek in the spring of 2024, where he took third place. “I was very excited, but that day remains in my memory as special,” he says.

In April 2025, David already won first place at the Delphic Games in Bishkek, where participants from different countries competed. “I was very nervous, but the support of my parents, friends, and my teacher helped me cope with the excitement,” he recalls with joy.

Since the age of six, David has also been practicing judo, which helps him develop character, overcome stage fright, and teaches perseverance. “Sometimes I face difficulties, but I try to repeat until I succeed. The main thing is not to give up,” he shares.

The path of a musician is not always easy. David recounts how before one of the concerts, his nails on his right hand—an important part for a guitarist—broke.

“Strong nails are needed for playing the guitar. Once, they broke right before going on stage. To the uninitiated, this may seem insignificant, but guitarists will understand how important it is,” he explains.

Nevertheless, the love for music always outweighs the difficulties. David performs a variety of pieces and is especially fascinated by Mozart: “I love him as a composer and as a person with an amazing biography, even though he was not a guitarist.”

In addition to music and sports, David enjoys skiing, biking with his father, reading, chess, and playing the accordion.

His mother believes that David's love for music arose naturally. “Every child is drawn to instruments, and David is no exception. For me, any of his victories, even the smallest, is a great achievement. When he overcomes his fear and goes on stage, he is already a winner,” she notes.

Evgenia also expresses gratitude to the teachers who help shape her son's personality.

“I want to tell all aspiring musicians not to give up, even when they face difficulties. I also don’t always succeed right away, but I try and keep going,” David concludes.
