For the past four years, Gulira has not only been learning horseback riding but also actively participating in the national game of kök bürü. "My parents, father Rustambek Borbiev and mother Venera Bytyeva, always support my sports interests. My father also played kök bürü, and my older brother is involved in this game as well. Watching them sparked my interest. At 14, I took my first steps in this direction. I hadn't ridden before, but I practiced Kyrgyz wrestling and judo. Currently, I am not engaged in those sports, but I go to the gym to maintain my physical fitness," she shared.
In 2024, Gulira decided to return to horseback riding. "Now there are three of us girls who are passionate about this hobby. I have two horses named Buria and Tuliya. This has become my passion and goal in sports. During the season, I have no free time at all," the girl noted.
Gulira also recalled some funny and memorable incidents related to horses. "One of them I will never forget. I was riding calmly down the street when my horse got scared of a dog and bolted. I didn't have time to pull the reins, and it crashed into the fence of a local resident, broke it, and then jumped over it and galloped away. In the end, we had to compensate for the damage to the broken fence," she recounted.
"Another incident happened in the summer. I asked a neighbor for a horse to participate in the alaman ulak, and it took off so fast that I couldn't stop it and fell to the ground. It took me a long time to recover. Now I remember it with a smile, but in reality, this sport is very dangerous. Only those who are truly passionate can play it," she added.
