Zhyrgalbek Mamytkanov, a teacher from the village of Sary-Kamysh located in the Ak-Su district of the Issyk-Kul region, has been working in the educational field for 26 years.

At the school named after J. Subanbekov, he conducts classes in drawing and labor training.

“I graduated from the Faculty of Arts at the Issyk-Kul State University, after which I worked in educational institutions in the city of Karakol. Eight years ago, I returned to my native district and started working at the school named after M. Mamakeev,” says J. Mamytkanov.

He emphasizes that his lessons help children avoid negative influences.

“I constantly encourage the kids to engage in crafts and develop a strong work ethic. To stay away from negative influences, children need to be occupied with something useful. After classes, I invite them to my workshop, where we create various souvenirs and wooden products. The children feel joy when they see that they can create something with their own hands. They share their dreams and plans with me, and I try to support them as a father and a teacher. I also work with children from families of labor migrants and other vulnerable groups,” says Zhyrgalbek.

The souvenirs and dishes he makes are displayed at district and regional fairs.

“We work manually, as we do not have machines. Some clients ask to buy our products. I am considering increasing the production of wooden dishes, as there is demand for them. If I manage to open a workshop, I will be able to involve even more children. Instead of spending time on their phones, it would be better for them to engage in crafts,” shares Mamytkanov his plans.

He has three children.
