As part of the meeting held in an online format, experts from the CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, discussed the revised draft action plan for preventing the spread of tuberculosis for the period from 2027 to 2030.

The basis for this document was an analysis of the current epidemiological situation regarding tuberculosis and a forecast of its changes in the Commonwealth countries by 2030.

Under the plan, CIS states intend to reduce tuberculosis morbidity by 20% and mortality by 35% compared to 2015 figures, as well as ensure 100% coverage of medical and social services for all those suffering from this disease.

According to the Commonwealth Executive Committee, the key objective of the document is to deepen cooperation in reducing the burden of tuberculosis at the societal level. Participants in the meeting expressed their intention to improve prevention methods, especially among high-risk groups, as well as to develop coordinated approaches for the early detection of all forms of tuberculosis and ensure access to drug resistance testing, including for migrants.

Moreover, special attention will be paid to the quality treatment of patients with various forms of tuberculosis. The plan includes the enhancement of qualifications for doctors and medical staff, including primary care specialists, on issues of early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of tuberculosis patients.

Participants also emphasized the importance of actively utilizing educational centers working with WHO in the Commonwealth countries and discussed the possibility of organizing online training courses with the WHO European Regional Office.
