At the World Government Summit in Dubai, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev emphasized the importance of climate change issues for Lake Issyk-Kul. This information was provided by the Ministry of Water Management and Agriculture.

In his speech, Torobaev noted that Issyk-Kul not only represents a unique ecosystem but also plays a key role in the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan. However, the lake is facing serious environmental challenges that have worsened in recent decades.

The minister pointed out that since the mid-19th century, the water level in Issyk-Kul has dropped by almost 14 meters, and the total water volume has decreased by about 85 billion cubic meters. The number of rivers flowing into the lake has also reduced, which is linked to glacial melting, changes in the hydrological regime, and increased water consumption.

Torobaev warned that further declines in water levels could lead to serious ecological and socio-economic consequences, including threats to biodiversity, tourist appeal, and the well-being of the local population.

The Kyrgyz Republic views the preservation of Issyk-Kul as part of the global agenda on climate and water resources, emphasizing the need to shift towards long-term and scientifically grounded solutions rather than limiting itself to short-term measures.

In this regard, he called on the global community to expand cooperation in sustainable water resource management, integrate climate and water issues, and support joint initiatives to preserve unique natural sites.

Kyrgyzstan has confirmed its readiness to be a reliable partner in protecting water ecosystems and shaping a sustainable future in water resources.
