In the Naryn region, there is a mass outbreak of a severe form of foot-and-mouth disease among cows. This was reported by a Turmush correspondent.

Local residents express concern that the authorities are not taking sufficient measures to address this problem.

Aybek Jumaliev, a farmer from the village of Kalinin in the At-Bashinsky district, shared:

“This time the disease manifests in a very severe form. Previously, only the mouth cavity was affected, but now the udder and hooves are suffering, which prevents the cattle from moving normally. The condition of the animals is critical.”

Farmers are in a panic and do not know what to do. The disease continues to spread, and if measures are not taken immediately, the situation may worsen. Foot-and-mouth disease has also begun to affect sheep.

“I have 5 cows and 5 calves sick, my brother has 10 cows, also showing symptoms. If you ask in other villages, the picture is similar everywhere. It is estimated that 80% of the livestock is already infected,” he added.

Another local resident, Ulanbek Sokeiev, noted:

“Now not only cows are suffering from the disease, but also sheep, even young lambs. The injections being given are not yielding results. People are losing livestock and facing losses, and pastures are becoming contaminated. It is necessary to establish a systematic burning and disposal of dead livestock.”

He also raises concerns about the quality of veterinary medications: “It is necessary to investigate why the medicines available in veterinary pharmacies are not effective. There is an impression that there is no control over their origin and supply to Kyrgyzstan.”

Sokeiev also expressed concerns about the potential consumption of meat from sick livestock: “If the meat from such animals goes for processing, it could have serious health consequences for people.”

For additional information, we contacted the Naryn regional veterinary management, where they reported:

“Cases of livestock disease have been registered. Specialists are carrying out the necessary measures, and the A. Duyshiev Scientific Institute is conducting laboratory tests to establish an accurate diagnosis.”

Kenjebek Kachkynbaev, the deputy akim of the At-Bashinsky district for agriculture, added:

“Cases of foot-and-mouth disease are being recorded in the republic and in Central Asia. The disease began to enter our district since last week. This is a new type of foot-and-mouth disease that spreads faster than the previous one. Vaccination of cows has not yet been carried out.”

“In our experience, if treatment is started on time with the use of penicillin and bicillin, as well as special sprays, recovery can be achieved,” he noted.

Previously, cases of the disease were recorded in the Chuy region and other areas. The disease is spreading in the Naryn region, but there are also cases of recovery. If a vaccine arrives soon, it will help stabilize the situation,” concluded Kachkynbaev.
