In the Ak-Talinsky district, in the village of Bayetov, military-applied games were held in honor of the veterans who participated in the Tajik-Afghan events.

According to information provided by a Turmush correspondent, this military-cultural event took place at the Esengul Karasartov Secondary School, where veterans who took part in stabilizing the situation on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan were honored.

Representatives of the local administration, veterans of the Tajik-Afghan events, as well as leaders of organizations and heads of the ayil okmotu attended the event.

As part of the celebration, initiated by the pre-conscription training teacher Samat Beyshenov, students demonstrated military-applied games that they had prepared. The event also included a concert program, and veterans were presented with monetary payments and awards from the Ak-Talinsky District State Administration and the ayil okmotu.

It should be noted that tensions on the Tajik-Afghan border increased in the early 1990s, particularly during the period from 1992 to 1997, when a civil war was taking place in Tajikistan. Armed groups of Tajik oppositionists attempted to cross the border from Afghanistan, leading to clashes with border guards. The conflict was localized with the help of Soviet border guards and Tajik servicemen; however, many people were killed or injured during the fighting.

About 3,000 servicemen from Kyrgyzstan participated in the Tajik-Afghan events, of which 36 are currently registered with the military commissariat of the Ak-Talinsky district. On February 25, 1999, Kyrgyzstan withdrew its troops from the Tajik-Afghan border.
