The president made a statement that it is now practically impossible to obtain a driver's license.
In an interview with the National Agency "Kabar," President Sadyr Japarov commented on the decision of the Jogorku Kenesh to suspend the bill that provided for checking drivers' knowledge of traffic rules on the spot.
According to the head of state, the main goal of this initiative was to stop violators and check their knowledge of traffic rules. In cases where a driver is unfamiliar with the rules, their license may be confiscated, and they will be required to retake the exam.
He noted that the approach proposed in this bill makes sense overall; however, for its implementation, it is essential to first adequately prepare the traffic police officers.
Sadyr Japarov also pointed out instances where some officers themselves do not possess the necessary knowledge of traffic rules.
"I have always emphasized that in the past, many obtained licenses without undergoing training. This leads to an increase in the number of accidents in which citizens suffer. One way to solve this problem is precisely this," the president added.
He stressed that without taking measures against violators, the number of accidents will continue to rise.
According to the president, the likelihood of purchasing driver's licenses now stands at only 1 percent.
"The state has taken this issue under control. Drivers who obtained licenses without the necessary knowledge need to be trained. Only then will the roads of Kyrgyzstan become safer," he concluded.
