The Audi company has become a pioneer among automakers by testing a Formula 1 car that meets the technical requirements for 2026. The shakedown of the R26 model took place at the "Barcelona-Catalunya" circuit.

In accordance with FIA regulations, which limit the duration of such tests to 200 kilometers, both Audi drivers — Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto — each completed 100 kilometers. The new car was presented in a black unpainted version, featuring only the Audi logo in the form of four rings on the rear wing.

These tests were a logical continuation of the successful first run of the R26 power unit, which took place on December 19, 2025, marking the completion of the integration of the engine and chassis developed in Neuburg (Germany), Hinwil (Switzerland), and Bicester (United Kingdom).

Jonathan Wheatley, the team principal, described this moment as critically important for Audi's Formula 1 program and expressed confidence in the team's readiness to move on to the next stages of development ahead of the debut season.

It is worth noting that Audi will officially begin its participation in the World Championship in 2026, when the new technical regulations aimed at increasing electrical power and using environmentally friendly fuel come into effect.
