Kyrgyzstan will receive a grant from Japan amounting to 6.845 billion Japanese yen, which is approximately equivalent to 44 million dollars at the exchange rate in December 2025. This information was announced by the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.

On December 12, 2025, in Bishkek, in the Small Hall of the Ministry of Finance, a note exchange took place between the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan, Ryuichi Hirano, and the Minister of Finance, Almaz Baketaev. This exchange was part of cooperation on four grant projects. Agreements were signed between the permanent representative of JICA in Kyrgyzstan, Kotaro Nishigata, and Almaz Baketaev.

The signed agreements aim to implement a number of key projects in areas such as energy, transport infrastructure, healthcare, and human capital development:

1. A project to strengthen the capacity of the training center responsible for the operation and maintenance of the electrical grid in Kyrgyzstan. Its budget is 1.535 billion Japanese yen (approximately 10 million US dollars) and is aimed at enhancing the skills of technical specialists, introducing energy-saving technologies, and improving the country's energy security;

2. A project to reconstruct the bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek–Osh highway, which will help improve transport connectivity with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. A total of 3.19 billion Japanese yen (about 20 million US dollars) has been allocated for this project;

3. A project to improve medical equipment in referral hospitals in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan, for which 1.801 billion Japanese yen (approximately 12 million US dollars) is planned to be allocated. This project aims to equip the Osh Interregional Unified Clinical Hospital and the Osh Oncology Center with modern medical equipment;

4. An economic and social development program, which includes the allocation of 319 million Japanese yen (about 2 million US dollars) to support human capital development through the provision of modern equipment for ICT education and research to the Kyrgyz-Japanese Human Development Center (KRJC).

JICA representatives noted that the exchange of notes and the signing of these grant agreements highlight the sustainable partnership between Japan and the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as a shared commitment to promoting sustainable development and strengthening key sectors of the country's economy through ongoing cooperation.
