The Party of European Socialists (PES), which includes socialist, social-democratic, labor, and democratic parties from EU countries, the UK, and Norway, has expressed serious concern regarding the situation of opposition figures in Kyrgyzstan.

In its statement, PES emphasizes that politically motivated criminal cases, particularly surrounding Temirlan Sultanbekov, threaten the foundations of democratic freedoms and the principles of the rule of law. The party highlighted that such actions contradict Kyrgyzstan's international obligations.

Furthermore, PES calls on the European Commission to take active measures within the framework of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, where adherence to democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech is a fundamental commitment.

It is worth noting that on June 25, the European Union and Kyrgyzstan signed the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA). The European side provided a number of recommendations aimed at improving the situation regarding human rights and freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan. PES warned that ignoring these recommendations could lead to the suspension of the agreement.

This issue is expected to be raised for consideration in the European Parliament after the January holidays, closer to the end of the month.
