Kerimbekov Kulchoro (1922-1989)

Painter. Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic. Born on December 22, 1922, in the village of Kum-Aryk, Kalinin District, Frunze Region.

In 1946-1947, he studied at the pedagogical department of the Samarkand Art School. In 1953, he graduated from the painting faculty of the I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in Leningrad.

He worked in landscape, genre painting, and portraiture. The artist placed great importance on working on studies in plein air, which is characteristic of painters from the older generation. He developed the theme of the construction of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Power Station. As a landscape painter, he explored the theme of intimate, lyrical landscape moods. In his later years, the artist refreshed and enriched his palette—it became brighter, fresher, and more saturated. This is especially noticeable in the series of Gurzuf landscapes from the 1970s.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Star, and medals for "Bravery," "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," and "For Labor Distinction."

Since 1955, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He participated in republican, nationwide, and international exhibitions. His works are housed in the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after G. Aitiev.
